FIFA, with a European twist ... The Euro 2012 DLC for FIFA 12 |
We dished out some stick to FIFA Street, suggesting that it should’ve come as
a DLC add-on.
So you can imagine our relief when we heard that the Euro 2012 game would come
as a digital expansion to FIFA 12.
Great idea, guys.
Yes, it’s pricier than your typical download, but it’s also less than half the
cost of a boxed title. Swings and roundabouts.
In terms of gameplay, nothing has changed. And there are various licensing
issues – look out, for example, for ‘A Rumsey’ of Wales. Even though ‘Aaron
Ramsey’ appears in an Arsenal kit...
That frustration aside, you’re basically getting official tournament stadiums,
branding and its own sub-section of the main FIFA game, as well as two new
game modes.
‘Expedition’ charges you with travelling throughout Europe, playing against
each of the 53 nations, and stealing the players of each conquered country
to add to your Harlem Globetrotters-like squad.
You play each country three times, adding an increasing standard of player on
each occasion – though the incentive to play minnows like Luxembourg or the
Faroe Islands remains unclear.
Brilliantly, you can also attempt to recreate some iconic European
Championship moments in the challenges mode and, the piece de resistance, a
virtual tournament mode, where you venture through Euro 2012 against real
players online.
Is that worth £16? Debatable, especially as we’re not used to paying more than
a tenner for downloadable content.
