Our favourite Cannes hair do's and how to do them

It's been a vintage year for beauty at the Cannes film festival so we've picked our four fave hair looks, all perfect for you to try out this weekend. From model Natasha Poly's sexy tousled plait to Kirsten Dunst's super cute braids there's something for you no matter what you're up to!

You can make this as easy or as complicated as you like- anything from a clip in fake braid to a basic pinned plait or a more tricky French plait would work. For a super pretty twist you could even weave fake flowers, perfect if you’re a bridesmaid this summer.

Unless you’ve got a friend to help you and you’re confident with tricky styles this might be one that needs a visit to the hairdryer but if you’re a dab hand with tongs give it a go. Using a medium barrelled tong, curl your whole had of hair, getting it quite close to the roots for an extra bit of lift. 

Section your hair into three, leaving the bulk in a pony tail at the nape of your neck and two smaller strands either side. Twist the side strands loosely, pinning as you you, stop when you get to the ponytail and add them to that. Then twist that whole new section into a tousled bun (if you have thinner hair you could use a doughnut). Finish with light hold hairspray.

Unless you’ve got a mane chances are you’re going to have to fake a bun of such gargantuan proportions. Find good value clip in buns at www.beautyworks.com. For an extra touch of glitz pin an old necklace around the join.

Natasha Poly’s tousled fishtail plait

Start with freshly washed hair and a volumising mousse, rough dry , getting as much movement into the roots as possible. Backcomb at the roots before collecting hair into a side ponytail just below your ear. Then do a basic plait if you’re (like us) a bit clumsy or attempt a fishtail – to do this divide hair into two sections and then pull a thin strand of hair from the outside of the first section. 

Pull this strand over the first section, and add it under the second section on the other side. In other words, the strand of hair has gone over the first section and finishes under the second section.Repeat on the other side, alternating til you get to the end of your hair then secure with a band.

She’s been out and about (rather more out if you know what we mean) at the Cannes film festival all week and has been rocking some serious frocks. From blinged up sequin one shoulder numbers to multi-coloured plunging v necks she’s stuck to a showgirl-esque glamour for her red carpet appearances, mixing them in with a little bit of 50’s inspired vintage tailoring. 

Of course she’s also been spotted in the odd swimsuit or corset too, this is Kelly Brook we’re talking about after all. There’s no denying she’s got one helluva bod but which looks do you think really worked and which fell a little flat?

Right that’s it, we’re renaming the A-list as the K-list as anyone who’s anyone at the Cannes film festival seems to start their name with a K this year. From Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to Kylie Minogue and Kristen Stewart, if your name doesn’t start with a kicking K you’re nobody.

Last nights parties and screenings gave us some of our fave Cannes 2012 looks yet. Our personal favourite was Kylie’s stunning full length Dolce & Gabanna sequin gown but Kirsten Dunst’s fuschia Christian Dior column dress was a close second.

Kelly Brook gave us a taste of old Hollywood in her classic red peplum number – maybe Tamara Ecclestone could learn a trick or two from her about dressing a big bust for the red carpet…

It’s Kim Kardashian we really can’t make our minds up about though- the boots definitely don’t go with dress but even minus the dress does she rock the frock or is it a little bit suit of armour?

Bye bye Kelly Osbourne! Georgia May Jagger named as the face of Madonna’s Material Girl range

First it was Taylor Momsen. Then Kelly Osbourne got the job. Now another offspring of a famous rock star has been announced as the face of Madonna and her daughter Lourdes’ fashion range, Material Girl. 

Georgia May Jagger – the daughter of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall – has been selected by Madge and Lola to front the teen fashion range, a fact that Georgia is very proud of, 

“To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing. I’ve always admired Madonna’s style and I’m thrilled to be working with them.”

If you want to get your hands on some of Madge and Lola’s designs, you won’t have to wait much longer. While range is currently only on sale in North America, it will launch here and in Australia later this summer.

Geri Halliwell’s X Factor audition dress- love it or loathe it?

We’ve already shown you Tulisa Contostavlos’ Lipsy frock for the new round of X Factor auditions but what about “trial” judge, Geri Halliwell? Wel she just went for a sensible LBD as she really didn’t want to hog the limelight…yeah right! Geri ensured all eyes were on her in a  super short, super tight bright blue lace frock with an eyecatching cut out detail on the back and bright orange lipstick for an extra hit of colour. 

We presume she forgot her shoes though as she teamed this attention grabbing look with a rather plain pair of grey boots. Keep an eye on ourlive report from the auditions and find out how her behaviour has been just as crazy as her look…..

What the hell is Paloma Faith wearing now?

Human cake? One of those dolls that sit on top of your nans loo concealing the toilet roll? Pantomime Dame? Exactly what is Paloma Faith dressed as?  Choosing this strangely shaped frock for an appearance on Later with Jool Holland it’s the latest in a long line of crazy couture donned by the singer. One question…how does she have a wee?

Tulisa chooses Lipsy for first X Factor auditions

It’s the first day of X Factor auditions in Manchester and as the UK’s Sexiest Woman, Tulisa’s got a lot to prove. 

She didn’t chose a flashy designer number though, staying true to her high street roots the singer chose a £60 dress from one of her fave high street stores Lipsy.

 Making the bubble hem dress her own, Tulisa teamed it with a black studded belt and bright red heels adding a bright Pink lipstick and wearing her long dark hair in ringlet style curls. 

We think we’d actually prefer it minus the belt and we don’t totally love the Pink lippy clashing with red heels but we LOVE the frock. What’s your verdict?

Calvin Klein Cannes party - the cleavage wars

At the Calving Klein party in Cannes it was all about boobies. Big, bouncy boobies, pushed up puppies and slightly pancake flat. 

There were, of course, some gorgeous gowns encasing these boobies (Calvin Klein, obvs) but we couldn't help but be distracted by the chests!

Diane Kruger surprised us with her pushed-together show of cleavage, she's usually so demure! The blonde star chose a beautiful coral midi dress teamed with bright white sandals, showing off her golden tan.

Model Lara Stone slipped on a flowing silver frock for the party, keeping her generous cleavage under a sweetheart neckline.

We love the pretty neckline but the skirt of this dress looks ever-so crinkled. And those shoes are a bit drab. A pair of stonking spike-heeled sandals would've been much sexier.

Over in the plunge corner was Jada Pinkett Smith who went for a pointy-shouldered petrol-blue dress. The very deep neckline didn't particularly flatter the petite star's bosom.

But Naomi Watts got it right in her blush floor-sweeper. The loose shape of the gown flattered Watts' slender figure perfectly. We adore her light feminine make up too.

Melissa George's out-there bra in Cannes - yay or no way?

After showing you lots of pics of stars looking amazing on the red carpet in Cannes, we thought we'd get your opinion on this one.

Former Home & Away star Melissa George worked the carpet at the Rust & Bone film premiere last night wearing a bizaare bra-flashing frock. Now, if this was a regular London premiere we might have let it slide (might) but for Cannes? Uh-uh. The Calvin Klein number features a sheer panel over the bodice of the frock but it sort of looks like she's got it on back to front. 

Melissa's hair and make up looks fab but she's let herself down with her bra-dress.

Hart of Dixie stars Rachel Bilson and Jaime King have a fashionable cuddle at CW Upfront

How nice is it when you see co-stars getting along all nice and friendly away from the comfort of their TV shows? Hart of Dixie stars Rachel Bilson and Jaime King stopped for a best-buddy-cuddle on the carpet at the CW Upfront Presentation in New York last night.

The pair, who worked together years ago on The O.C., have already completed one season of the show which stars Bilson as New York doctor Zoe Hart (see what they did there?) who finds herself stuck in the middle of Alabama, having to get the kind folk of Bluebell to like her. Jaime is the town's perfect-princess, Lemon Breeland, and she isn't too pleased at having to share her little town with Zoe. Oh, and Zoe falls for Lemon's fiance, George. As well as the local bad boy, Wade. It's cosy, lovely, romantic, emotional and totally fun and we love it! It's definitely helped to fill the Summer Roberts-shaped hole in our lives.

 

At the CW event Jaime showed off her newly dyed red locks. She recently said once she's on break from filming the hit show she will let loose and colour her hair. First she went dip-dye blue and now she's a warm rusty shade. Who knows what she'll be next! The slim former model opted for a tropical print midi skirt and a monochrome bralet teamed with Guiseppe Zanotti spiky heels.

 

Rachel Bilson looked as cute as a button in her cream Chanel frock which she paired with gorge satin Casadei heels. Rach co-ordinated her make up with her dress, using pale pastels and pearly hues.

Freida Pinto rocks a crop top in Cannes

Oooh this picture makes us want to go on holiday NOW! The blue skies, the little sailing boats dotted around on the bluest sea, Freida Pinto looking pretty...aaaah!

The beautiful Slumdog Millionaire actress was snapped attending the Desert Dancer photocall in Cannes today wearing a lovely summery two-piece. 

The matching cropped halterneck top and midi skirt are teamed perfectly with a pair of denim-blue sandals. Freida's simple ponytail and fresh make up finish her summer-ready look.

Kim Kardashian looks elegant in navy at the FiFi Fragrance Awards

 

Last night at The Brewery in Clerkenwell Kim attended th FiFi Fragrance Awards to celebrate the launch of the reality TV star's new smelly, True Reflection. Kim opted for a gorgeous navy blue floor-length frock with skinny spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline. 

The dress might not be a sparkly flesh-flashing number but with Kim's figure, it packed a stylish punch on the red carpet. Glittering 18ct gold and black diamond Garrard earrings and matching cuff complemented her chic look.

Kim kept her hair sleek and off her shoulders, keeping focus on her dramatic eye make up and on-trend big brows.

Kim's boyf Kanye also went along to the event, looking gangster-fabulous in a white tuxedo jacket, bright tee and sheeny trews.

Millie Mackintosh proves she's the sexiest farmer around for Nature Valley

We doubt she'll win any prizes at the Farmer of the Year* Awards but Millie Mackintosh sure does look good on a tractor! 

The Made In Chelsea star posed aboard one of the giant farming machines to promote the Nature Valley Games. Millie is leading a team, alongside former British Olympians Roger Black and Jamie Baulch, on 9th July at London's Potter's Fields where they'll compete against each other on an entertaining (read: embarassing) assault course. 

Though Roger and Jamie might have Olympian skillz to back them up, we doubt they'll stand a chance against Millie and her charms. They'll surely be driven to distraction!

 

Wonder if Millie's boyfriend Professor Green will be there to cheer his missus on?

*There's no such thing, we just made these farmer awards up. We like the idea of them though

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West enjoy a date in London town

Must. Try. To. Contain. Excitement...

Kanye West AND Kim Kardashian ARE IN TOOOOOOWN!!Our current fave couple were spotted dining out in London last night, at the swanky Zuma restaurant Knightsbridge. The contemporary Japanese eatery is a fave among famous types thanks to it's uber-low fat menu of sashimi and sushi.

Kanye led his gorgeous girlfriend through London, wearing his usual fahbulous all-noir look teamed with box-fresh trainers.

Kim chose to balance her beau's dark outfit with a white snake-print Lanvin fitted dress paired with cute ankle-strap heels. She pinned her long hair back into an on-trend middle-parted pony tail. 

With Kanye performing alongside Jay-Z this weekend and Kim launching her new fragrance, True Reflection, it looks like the pair's London break will be pretty hectic! We're looking forward to meeting Kim tomorrow when we interview her for her perfume launch. DEFINITELY going to be fake tanning tonight in preperation!

Has Miley Cyrus gone too far? Star looks super-slim while out in Miami yesterday

 

The ever-shrinking Miley Cyrus and her love for Pilates has been closely followed ever since pics of her emerging from the gym studio wearing belly-baring crop tops started popping up. We were all surprised to see how much weight Miley had lost in such a short period of time. Back in April the singer hit back at claims that she was unwell tweeting,

"For everyone calling me anorexic, I have a gluten and lactose allergy. A gluten-free diet excludes foods containing gluten, a protein found in wheat. "It's not about weight -- it's about health. Gluten is crap anyway!"

Miley also tweeted a fan saying, 

"Everyone should try no gluten for a week! The change in your skin, physical and mental health is amazing. You won't go back!"

Since then we've watched the petite star go to daily Pilates classes, becoming even tinier in the process. These pics of Miley snapped out and about with her mum Tish in Miami yesterday shocked us. Looking slimmer than ever, Miley's head is starting to resemble a lollipop.
