When we think Versace, we think Elton John
on Whip-Its at Cirque de Soleil: gold lamé animal print on hot pink
panda fur, framed by images of ancient Greco-Roman bathhouse tiles—you
get the picture.
What does not immediately come to mind is...this. According to people
who are in the know, this is a Versace gown and it was worn by sexy
actress Freida Pinto at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival last night.
For the average American, this dress is a fine piece of evening glam.
For several celebrities, this creation could spark a small war...

But for a Versace? The look is borderline funerary. Is this what we
get when Donatella gets depressed? If so, someone hand her a couple of
klonopins and a pen, because we would love to see more!
We love the hot pink lip on our Slumdog Millionairess. Even
Freida's blocky black pumps are working for us—a pair of strappy sandals
would have run the risk of competing with all those inky strokes of
uncharacteristic restraint.
But really: This is a Versace? What is the world coming to?
