It's not about the money, money, money ... singer Jessie J |
NO wonder Jessie J spent the first year of her career wearing the same catsuit.
The singer was skint last summer and struggling to make any cash from music,
her financial figures reveal.
It’s unlikely to be that way now, thanks to fat sponsorship deals, increased sales of her songs and coaching duties on TV show The Voice.
But documents filed at London’s Companies House for the year ending last August reveal she had lurched into the red, running at a near £20,000 loss.
By last summer, the Essex girl’s debut album Who You Are had notched decent sales, single Price Tag had topped the singles chart and her track Do It Like A Dude had scored a No2 hit.
But while Jessie had £360,000 in the account of her gig firm Who You Are Touring and was owed £210,000, she had to pay creditors £590,000. Another of her firms, Who You Are Ltd, made just £387.
But as her profile has grown Jessie is almost certain to have turned around her fortunes.
A source said of her finances: “Jessie’s first-year figures aren’t great but quite often royalties from sales and radio play take a while to come through.
“Until last summer, she had played mostly relatively small gigs and been hampered by a leg injury.
“But these days Jessie has deals with drink firm Vitamin Water and MasterCard, plus her fees from this year’s No1 single Domino and her work on The Voice have delivered serious boosts to her bank balance.”
Jessie should use some of her cash to kit out her fellow coach on The Voice, Will.i.am, with new clobber.
Even a catsuit would look better on him than those leather jackets.
